In this video, we take a short walk through the center of Munich. Our walk begins in the calm surroundings of Maximiliansplatz. Leaving the park behind, we pass one of Munich’s best-known monumental fountains, Wittelsbacher Brunnen. Completed in the late 19th century, this fountain was dedicated to the Wittelsbach dynasty, which ruled Bavaria for centuries, and is considered one of the city’s symbolic monuments.
We then reach Promenadeplatz. Although it is a relatively small square, it is home to statues of important figures from Bavarian history. One of them is the statue of the late Renaissance composer Orlando di Lasso, which has an interesting story today. The nearby Hotel Bayerischer Hof was a place where Michael Jackson stayed when he visited Munich. After his death, fans began leaving flowers, photos, and candles at the base of the Orlando di Lasso statue across from the hotel, turning it into an unofficial memorial. Even today, fans continue to leave flowers, posters, and candles here.
Our walk continues along Maffeistraße and Weinstraße. As we approach the city center, the streets become more crowded, and Munich's vibrant atmosphere becomes more pronounced. Just before reaching Marienplatz, we catch a glimpse of the iconic towers of the Frauenkirche from a narrow street, one of the city's most photographed spots. Immediately afterwards, we arrive at Marienplatz, the heart of Munich, and conclude our walk in front of the impressive neo-Gothic Neues Rathaus. Munich's historic elegance and modern energy come together along this route.
As always, there's no narration or guidance. Just footsteps, ambient sounds and flow. For the best experience, I recommend watching with headphones.
